When we read a story it has to tear down all our walls, it has to expose us to the ruined shatters of our feelings and has to force us to make our first step onto insecure grounds. The story has to throw us into a completely new world with its very first sentence, a new world, full of fears and desires, grief and loss, rage and hopes.
Munro, Carver, Baxter, Hemingway and Checkhov have written such stories. But there are many more who made us think at the end: Amazing. Sometimes we were not able to tell exactly, why. But that’s just what we want to think at the end of a story.
