Profane is an annual print and audio journal featuring an eclectic mix of poetry, fiction, and creative non-fiction. We record every poem and piece of prose we publish in the author's own voice. With any content we publish, it's not our goal to offend. But ideally, we'd like the writing we publish to meet readers in their uncomfortable places, to provoke conversations worth having. With that aspiration in mind, we believe there is no subject too taboo for exploration. We're keen on celebrating writers who present us with challenging material. Writing that is surprising or difficult, intellectually and emotionally, in even small, subtle ways, has the potential to leave the reader different as a result. To possess that potential is our definition of "good writing." And ultimately, good writing, whatever form it takes, is what we're after.
