The New Guard's aim is to juxtapose experiment with narrative to create a new dialogue. We also juxtapose the old guard with the new. TNG recently featured previously unpublished Ralph Ellison (a story he'd written in 1944, along with the Photostats) and had 40+ debut writers in a 346 page book. TNG is an annual publication. We hold international contests in fiction and poetry (former judges Charles Simic, Donald Hall, Debra Spark, David Plante). We also cull work from contributors such as Sharon Olds, Maxine Kumin, Joe Wenderoth, Tim Seibles, Sven Birkerts, Josip Novakovitch, and on and on. We have a themed letters section each issue, do interviews with Maine writers, and have featured poets and fiction writers.
